6:46 PM PDT — Phrase of the day: "Standard-issue breathtaking," courtesy the cut-ups at Bonny Doon.

7:04 PM PDT — First day back in the office starts with 135 unread email messages in the InBox. It ends with 140 unread messages. That is not progress.

7:59 AM PDT — A week of vacation comes to a close. Here's the summary: Hung around the house for a couple of days and caught up on those pesky errands that seem to stack up. Then took advantage of an about-to-expire free ticket and visited friends, pals and acquaintances in Detroit and environs. Back here on Saturday night, just in time to observe the big gay day with mind-altering substances and still more friends.

1:05 PM EDT — The time is a clue. That's all I'll say for now. Sorry.

8:35 AM PDT — What was I thinking? First, I write but neglect to post the entry for Thursday. Then just as I'm feeling smug for getting it right, that obscenely cute Canadian Steve asks if I'm making an obscure SF joke by having the Russian photo link points to Bart. No, I'm just being my usual ditz self. Oy.

Can I go back to bed now?

7:03 AM PDT — Why am I up at an ungodly hour on a weekend?

To clean up the cat vomit, of course!

11:36 PM PDT — The Library of Congress has mounted a fascinating exhibit of color photographs from the final years of imperial Russia. The Empire That Was Russia presents images that unlike most photos of the period are startlingly vivid and compelling.

Personally, I've always found it difficult to relate to the typical turn of the century black & white image. There's an otherworldly aspect to the photos and subjects that keeps me at arm's length.

Not with this exhibit though. Details pop. Colors startle. Suddenly I can empathize with subjects even though the pictures were snapped nearly 100 years ago.

11:00 PM PDT — "Tivo users skip more than half of commercials." That is news? Hell, I'd say it's pretty amazing that anyone out there would watch even 50% of the commercials on the air given the option.

That said, I do love that Jack in the Box "Cops" parody.

8:35 AM PDT — I need a week to catch up.

11:58 PM PDT — Crappy, crappy 12-hour day at the office. I should be on the way to bed. But I couldn't resist noting the brilliance of Airport. As an example, look no further than my current position — surfing from a comfy prone position on the couch under a fluffy throw with Trixie purring away between my legs.

All together now, “Awwwww.”

7:50 AM PDT — The MP3 stash included on the new toy has pushed me into milestone territory. My collection now comprises 500 individuals files weighing in at 1.99GB. By iTunes reckoning, enough to play nonstop without repeating for 1 day, 11 hours, 18 minutes and 54 seconds.

11:09 PM PDT — New toys in my world. Moving into a new computer is always so time consuming. All those applications to install and preferences to set. But I believe it's just about behind me.

I can tell you're excited.

10:09 PM PDT — A big, 6.9MB funny. Thanks Jake.

3:21 PM PDT — Over 50% of web designers are sleepy and cranky.

1:30 PM PDT — So busy, I don't have time to think. But I can link.

1:29 PM PDT — Opps. Revisionist history time. Or why I bothered to type out a blurb but not post it for three days.
