Woke up in LA, went to sleep in San Francisco. In between, we got healthy sandwiches, found outrageous gas prices in Beverly Hills and stared at the bleakness that is Interstate 5 for several hours. At least we beat the computer’s time estimate by more than an hour. Finally the beard, if you can call it that, makes it’s final appearance. Mini-vacation over and out.
A surprisingly cold day in LA. We spent a good chunk of it at the Getty for the Herb Ritts LA Style exhibit and yet another very elaborate lunch in the restaurant. Just hung out in the afternoon then drove through Beverly Hills on the way to a simple dinner.
Last morning in Vegas. First visit ever where I am not quite ready to leave. Believe the Palazzo’s design and services that don’t constantly force you through the casino made the difference. Had a lunch at Fleur on the way out of town.Thought we’d have a relaxed drive back to LA but hit nasty rain and traffic. Wound up taking over six hours. Had to dash to LAX to meet Rich. His flight was spot on time, of course. Checking into the Century Plaza then had a nice dinner at Craft nearby.
Vegas, day two. Shari got the giggles while I shot the intro. She pouted a bit because the free breakfast spread didn’t have bacon. Never fear though, Emeril’s Table 10 offered something called bacon candy so all was right with the world again. We wandered around the Wynn and Encore. Hit up the Canyon Ranch Spa (didn’t record because you don’t want to see me clothing optional). Then onto the day’s highlight—dinner at the Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon. One of those expensive but worth every penny experiences. Have you gotten the idea that this trip revolves around food and drink?
LA to Vegas with Shari. Decent drive, around four hours. We’re staying at the Palazzo, which is part of the Venetian complex. Huge room, very over-the-top. Also have access to their 23rd floor Prestige lounge for breakfast, coffees, snacks and afternoon cocktails. Liking it because we don’t have to go to the casino anytime we want a nosh. Dinner first night was Jaleo at the Cosmopolitan. Superb meal. Two and a half Bombay martinis, wine and sangria might have been a wee bit too much booze. Then we wrap up with a glimpse of the Bellagio dancing waters.
Third time I’m typing this description because hotel wifi keeps letting me down. SF to LA on Interstate 5. The fast but boring road through California’s central valley. Having Jamie Cullum streaming live on BBC Radio 2 for an hour helped. That high tech stuff might have a future. Of course, I forgot to record after arriving in LA and hooking up with Shari. The happy hour we found in WeHo had nothing to do with it.
Monday was all about preparing for hitting the road on Tuesday. Errands and other last minute stuffs. Interrupted by my take on Instagram selling out to Facebook. Time to find a new photo sharing solution. Oh well.
Started recording early, pre-coffee. Always a pretty sight. A bit later, Rich and I went across that oh-so famous bridge to get some lunch. Then back to the city to hang with friends, walk up and over hills, and happened by Dolores Park for the tail end of the hunky Jesus festivities. Gotta love SF.
Very lazy this weekend about shooting and editing the videos. Rich tossed me out of the house today so he could clean. I exercised enough to hit my daily goal again on the Nike Fuelband then ruminated about growing my beard for the next week while I’m off. Very on the fence about that.
Friday at home. The semi-official start of spring break. Went to lunch. Happened upon a terrific late 50’s Dodge Coronet in a nice pink and white two-tone. Hung out with the cats in the sun. And got a package from Warby Parker with new glasses and sunglasses. Almost too much fun for one day.
