Busy Saturday. Rich sees “Magic Mike” with friends; I turned my nose up at it. Instead I met my friend Alex for coffee then get to see the sweet bike he’s assembling, try his home-brewed beer and discover an unknown talent of his. Then I get Rich’s Touareg key working again and find a classic ’61 Thunderbird while getting the VW washed. Picked up pizzas from DelFina and ice cream from Bi-Rite before watching the horrendous “Longhorns” at Matt and Miguels. So much for my thinking that a gay film would be better than the straight one. Oh well, next time.
Slow morning. Cat hijinks. Alice eating the kitty grass qualifies as pretty normal. Sydney in the sink though? Just bizarre. Had to go to school for some special workshops. Letterpress proved entertaining. Too bad I wound up spending twice as long there as planned. Oh well. No one really needs excitement on a Friday night.
Yes, I did cheat a bit and mixed some bits from Thursday into this one. Can you spot the continuity errors?
The day started off with me feeling very behind from the didn’t-get-much-done weekend. But I managed to get almost all of the freelance work squared away. Then actually had time to try out yet another new camera. A Canon Elph 300 HS. Yes, it manages to autofocus during recording without sounding like I’m dragging around a bag of rocks. Sadly, the S100 is going back. It produces better picture but the audio drives me crazy. I’m starting to think the microphone placement is a design flaw. And we wrap up the day with way too much cute cat footage.
Rich and I spent a very quiet Pride Sunday at home with the girls. They seemed to enjoy a relaxing, sunny day. Unfortunately, I had a ton of work and didn’t get through it all, thanks to some distractions. Oh well. I’ll manage to recover on Monday.
Stayed in bed until after 10. How unlike me. Felt like shit as a result. Too much sleep often leaves me feeling as bad as not enough. Resulted in a kind of a nothing day. Worked out, determined the camera suction-mount I got last week sucks and needs to go back, then piddled around doing a whole lot of nothing until it was time to head over to Matt and Miguel’s for their anti-Pink Party. The actual Pink Party taking place a couple of blocks from their place being this bacchanalian street fest with way too many sloppy people. Been there, done it. No need to repeat. Hung out with friends Eddie and Brenden, among others. The gathering collectively swooned over a gorgeous French intern named Guillaume. Like a bunch of school girls. He’s all of 23 though—no touching. He did take Eddie’s number so maybe he’ll put in another appearance.
Up and out into the foggy city way too early this morning. I knew it was going to be a busy day with the house cleaners due, workers coming into to finish the interior repairs for the office window that got replaced and ongoing freelance stuffs. Did not realize that the office repairs would require everything in there being draped in plastic. That shut down my ability to get the freelance stuff done. So I made up for it by taking plenty of silly cat shots. You’re welcome.
Day before summer classes begin. Fog descended on our neighborhood early. By noon we were almost completely socked in so we decided to head down the peninsula. Picked up Matt and Miguel on the way. Wound up in Palo Alto where we had a nice, late lunch. Reposado gets a big thumbs up—especially the vegetarian queso fundido and handmade tortillas. Then happened upon a world music festival taking place along a closed-to-cars University Avenue. Quite nice. Shot a few seconds of the Clover coffee machine brewing my iced grande Galapagos. Oh so tasty. Braved Lowes on the way back to foggy SF. Got some temporary window shades so we can get one of the living units repaired. So glam.
I believe I talked about the autofocus ticking and clicking noises that the new camera picks up while recording in quiet environments. Amazon reacted quickly and shipped a replacement overnight. These tests show it’s better, not perfect but I think I might be able to live with it. I guess it’s inevitable that some noise gets picked up. The pocketable-size means there has to be a motor millimeters away from the microphones. The new camera body definitely runs quieter than the original. Besides the camera exchange, Saturday proved relaxed. Got the 3-series all shiny. Made up a tasty dish for lunch—swiss chard with caramelized lemon and almonds. Got a new gas bottle for the grill. Then grilled vegetables and veggie burgers for dinner.
Got a new, long-overdue mattress delivered today. But not the windows. I got my dates mixed up. They come on Monday. Oh well. Also tried out a new suction cup camera mount in the car. Fail, as you can see. It’s going back to Amazon. Oh well. I’m also starting to suspect that this new Canon PowerShot S100 has a defect. The microphone picks up a ticking/clicking sound from the autofocus. Very annoying, especially when I’m shooting in a quieter environment. Like anywhere in my apartment. Amazon is sending a replacement. If it’s not better, they’re both going back. Not sure what I’ll do at that point. There is always the Flip Mino HD. Oh, I also got Darren. We had some foods, found a Tesla Roadster on 24th Street. Then took a jaunt to Palo Alto to get other stuffs.
