In On Friday?

Odd Friday because I went into school. I’m so behind since I couldn’t do much of anything the week we didn’t have power or internet in the new space. Then I rant about a bad experience getting prescriptions refilled at Walgreen’s. Incompetence all around. Also, our friend Jim is visiting this weekend. Took him to Ragazza for an evening of deliciousness.

Back To Bed

Lazy morning. I seem to be in this pattern of getting up, having a cappuccino then taking a nap. In my defense, the back to bed thing this morning was as much about staying warm as more sleep. Roused ourselves to meet M+M for brunch. Then went on a shopping expedition. Found a new coffee table. We’ve been halfway looking for months. And something we weren’t looking for—giant display clock. No problem seeing the time in the middle of the night. Take that myopia. Then it got really foggy in the evening. What a surprise.

Extra Foggy

Super foggy start to the day. But what do you know, it burned off. I ran errands and went on a rant about shower parts and big box stores. Then we met up with Matt and Miguel for dinner. Discussed a couple of pet peeves. And Rich realized why celebrities should ban together and pay us not to leave the country. Cat cuteness, too of course.

Evening

Very lazy day. Didn’t start shooting until after 7. Scandalous. Quiet day. Dominated by a three-hour nap. Sometimes you need days like that. Went for takeout from Nopalito. Ordered too much food but oh well. It will keep. Some cute cat shots, of course, including Rich sleeping with both of them.

Sweden photos on Rich’s flickr.

A quiet Friday. Fogged in and had a lot to do on email. Rich provided some amusement, as usual.

Week Later

Oh hello. Yes, it’s been a week since we got back from Europe. No, I haven’t thrown in the towel on these videos. Shot throughout the week just couldn’t get motivated to edit. Needed a bit of recovery no doubt. But here’s a mash-up of said week. Nothing too exciting. My department at school moved to a new building that wasn’t quite ready for us. Other stuff. I actually had a well written description but the initial upload went screwy and YouTube lost it and the tags. Oh well.

Homeward

Heading home. Final morning in Göteborg and Sweden. Going to miss those Euro hotel breakfasts with the wonderful assortment of breads and cheeses. Short hop on Lufthansa, connecting in Frankfurt with the United long-haul, nonstop to San Francisco. Left the hotel at 8:15 CET. Walked into our house a bit after 17:00 PDT. I’m still too tired to do the time zone math. Needless to say, it made for a long day. Both LH and UA were great this particular day. Only hiccups were caused by TSA and Homeland Security. What a surprise.

24 Hours

Final day in Göteborg. Morning rain caused us to drop the notion of biking out to the botanical gardens and just shop in town. Tried to figure out why Volvo was showing several V40 models at our hotel. Went back to the Götaplatsen for a light dinner and drinks at the outdoor bar on the museum steps. Lovely evening to close out a wonderful trip.

Fresh Start

First few hours in Götegborg didn’t go so great. The Scandic Crown, our pre-booked hotel, turned out to be a major bleh. So we moved across the street to the much cooler Clarion Hotel Post, which was built in and around a historic post office right next to the central train station. Has great style and essentially the same price as the family-oriented Scandic. Art, architecture and no screaming kids. Triple score. After we moved, things started looking much better. Sun even came out. We stumbled into a major festival, found a parade, explored the art museum and generally had a great time wandering the streets shooting photos and video.

High Speed

Final morning in Stockholm then took the SJ high-speed train to Göteborg. It’s about the same distance as SF to LA yet city center to city center took just 3 hours, 10 minutes. First class with a meal and wine, still less than flying coach. And no airport hassles. I just don’t understand the people who claim high-speed rail won’t work in the US. Finally we wandered around Göteborg and found a nice outdoor cafe.
