December 25. The day when everyone knows what’s going to happen. Gifts. Family and friends. Too much food. Too much drink and other intoxicants. Before it’s over someone cries. Guaranteed. We had all that. Except for the crying. At least not on camera. Ho ho ho.
Another incredibly lazy day and late start shooting. Finally roused myself from the role of kitty cat bed to go get the Christmas shopping over. Mostly. Still need to pick up a few small things and send the nieces/nephews gift certificates. I know such gifts are kind of lame but they actually asked for them. A few Christmas lights are to be seen and the best news is that I have managed to get through a holiday season without resorting to a mall. Local merchants and no lines are the way to go.
And the rain came. So I spent most of the day in bed. Didn’t drag myself out and start recording until 3:30 or so. Worked out then we met up with M+M for a takeout dinner at their place. Puck the cat was adorable, as usual. A deep discussion comparing and contrasting The Macarena vs. Gangnam Style took place. Then a very wet Touareg took us home.
Short video for the shortest day of the year. I fully intended to shoot more only to get distracted by BofA’s stupidity. I discovered they hit me with a monthly service charge on one of the accounts. Shouldn’t happen because we have all our accounts consolidated with them. Having to navigate their goddamn automated phone system didn’t make my mood any better. Unfortunately, the rep I eventually got on the line was super apologetic and reversed the charge immediately. Took the wind out of my sails because I was all set to rant. Afterwards, all I could muster was finishing up some stuff for classes. I did have some extra footage of the cats from earlier in the week. You’re welcome.
We closed on our refinance and signed the papers today. And signed. And signed. And signed. Such silliness. Then I went for lunch at Nopalito and realized my favorite, the Chilpachole, had returned. With the fresh tortillas. Amazing. Finally, the 3-series has taken to scheduling service for itself. Convenient if a bit creepy.
Rainy, cold, grey day. I stayed in and lazed around until deep into the afternoon. Only left then because I felt like a slug. Came home, broke out the Armagnac and watched Bernie. Excellent film. Worth renting.
Yes, Rich threw me out. But just for a couple so he could do his white tornado impersonation. Set up camp at a nearby cafe and discovered a new taste treat. Grilled cheese with fig chutney. Must remember to have it again. Watched Moonrise Kingdom finally. Loved it. Then it was time for Rich’s company holiday party. We decided to go because of the location. City Hall. Quite spectacular. I find playing the spouse role at these affairs more than a bit tedious. I don’t know 99 percent of the folks attending so they’re just annoying people in my way for food or booze. Not to mention the whole having to dress up. I know this sounds grinchy but I’d just as soon stay home with the kitties.
A genuinely cold day. One of the two or three each year when you can wear wool. Also prompted me to drive the thirsty V8 only because it’s got a heated steering wheel. Cold fingers are bad. Not much footage today because I spend most of it at school. End of semester hectic and all.
Forgot to edit and upload again. Oops. Celebrating the 25th is a good excuse, right? So yeah, this marks our official anniversary. Really hard to believe it’s been that long. And Rich discloses how Pat Sajak, Vanna White and, of course, Merv Griffin played a pivotal role in our first meeting.
Our winter commencement took place on Sunday. Really just an elaborate photo op since classes won’t end for a couple of weeks. Kind of bizarre. Oh well. Then we went walking with M+M. Nice evening in Noe. Ran into annoying carolers. Sorry to be cantankerous but why is it not only acceptable to torture the public with off key singing but expect praise for so doing?
