I spoke too soon last week. Friday night, the PowerBook started moving agonizingly slow. Taking minutes to redraw the desktop. Disk Utility revealed that the drive’s SMART status showed imminent failure. Fortunately the AppleCare warranty remains in effect for another six weeks so a service box is on the way. Just reinforces my believe in the importance of having extended coverage on portable machines. Also had done a full back up last week and the early warning gave me enough time duplicate to the updated mail and photos. Hopefully the incident won’t be more than several days inconvenience.
