February 7, 2011 at 4:04 pm | 1 Comment »Unless you’ve spent significant time in and around New Orleans, there are a few things you need to understand before this clip. 1) Mardi Gras is almost upon us. 2) The New Orleans King Cake is a sickeningly sweet coffee cake, garishly decorated and served during Mardi Gras. 3) A baby doll aka Baby Jesus is baked in and whoever gets the baby has to buy the next King Cake and/or host the next Mardi Gras party. Mmmm. Now on with the show.

BTW, King Cakes use to be really dry so you could wash ’em down with booze. Anyhow, they’ve evolved over the years, so the more over the top the better. I wouldn’t consider them a coffee cake though…nuh uh…
