Service Please

I could also title today’s episode Fix My Electronic Shit since the day was mostly about correcting my recent high-tech troubles. Took the iMac into the Apple Store. Given the dismal record, I should have a full head of fury but everyone in the store is so goddamn nice. It’s tough to maintain rage when they appear horrified by my story, apologize profusely and smile. Say things like, “This should not have happened. I’m deeply sorry. We’re going to do our best to get this fixed.” Any company involved in customer service needs to be studying what Apple has achieved. Part 2 is the equally epic camera saga. The second Canon Powershot Elph 300 HS body arrived this afternoon. Fourth compact Canon if you’re keeping count. It’s the final shot I’m giving Canon. If it goes bad, I’m swearing off Canon products for good. Actually if I only dealt with Canon on these issues, I probably would have written the brand off long ago. But I bought from Amazon, which has been great about taking back the badly-designed S100’s and latest broken Elph 300 HS. And of course it wouldn’t be a complete video without cute shots of the girls.

Stay In

A couple of major events took place in the city today (Dore Alley and SF Marathon) so I decided to avoid traffic nightmares by staying close to home. Unfortunately, the iMac decided to try out its sewing machine impression. Really? I’m having the worst luck with this generation. For the record this is the third 21.5″ iMac I’ve had since September, 2011. The first had a display problem out of the box. The second had to be serviced for three separate problems before it was replaced. Now this one has either a fan (most likely) or hard drive in its death throes. The only reason I’m not on an anti-Apple tirade is that the MacBook Air has been flawless. One of the best computers I’ve ever touched. And some cute stuff with the cats; Sydney turned my jeans into a scratching post.

Get Out of the House

One of those had-to-leave-so-Rich-could-clean Saturdays. I took a walk to the Castro and got lunch. Explored the Harvey Milk photo center on the way back. Seems quite nice. I’ll have to go back when there’s an exhibit up. Our pals Matt and Miguel picked up their nifty new car so naturally we went for a ride and had dinner. It’s Dore Alley weekend so there’s lots going on with bears and the fetish community. Not sure why those two always seems to go together but they do. Rich dropped by Mr. S Leather, which was hosting a porn company party or something. I’m not sure. Though I love his phrase, “Wall of lube.” Does that happen in your town? Finally you get a peak into our exciting Saturday evening. I know you’re jealous.

Odds & Ends

Day at home. Taking care of several small tasks. Camera decided to start jamming. Yes, the Canon Powershot Elph 300 HS that I’ve had one month. It’s getting returned. Annoying. Also bought new Nike Flyknit trainers. Very cool and light woven tech. Continuing the theme of trying new things, had a late lunch at Nopalito and tried the summer fish stew Arroz a la Tumbada, which replaced my beloved Chilpachole. Tasty. If you try it, just be cautious of the pickled serrano.

Hanging Gardens

Found a slightly odd sight from our bedroom windows when I got home this afternoon. So over this construction. Otherwise not a bad day. Not a good day. Just a Monday. Excuse the awkward close ups at the midway point. Shouldn’t be allowed to operate a zoom, clearly.

Can’t Talk

Relaxed Sunday. Went for a walk with our pal Miguel. Got the car washed. Had to go stand in the sun because it was too damn cold. Typical July Sunday in SF. Wrap up by showing you one of the exotic cars—or at least the cover of it—that our college kid neighbors own. Yes, college kids with an stable of Italian exotics. Oy.

Lost A Day

Exciting news—for us anyway. Have decided to take a vacation to Sweden next month. We’ll be spending a week in Stockholm and Göteborg. Probably will be obsessed with planning for the next few weeks. Sorry if that’s boring. Other than that, ran errands, showed off the silly toys—parking sensors, power everything—in the Touareg, played with cats and made up a dish for dinner. Typical Saturday.

Half Done

Can you believe July is half done? I’m not ready. So much to do. Stayed too long at school today. Sent best wishes to a lovely fellow motorist who needed to turn left from the far right lane right at the light. Never could have realized the massive back up such an intelligent move would cause. Had hairs cut. Did more business. Charming kittens. Etc.

Bleh Sunday. Rich did things. The girls did things. It seems that everyone in the world did things. Not me though. Bleh. Watch, like comment, subscribe anyway.

Wrapped In Gray

Day began blah but quickly turned around. Worked out. Then met up with Darren for a little Bastille Day brunch. Met Rich at home and heard about his encounter with the world’s worst driving instructor. Then went to dinner our pals Matt and Miguel. Ventured to Outerlands and got rewarded with Old Rasputin XII, an amazing aged stout, and super tasty dishes. If you’re in SF, it’s worth a trip out to the outer Sunset.
