March 15, 2008 Who's the fool that scheduled the St. Patrick's Day parade two days early? I know I'm a curmudgeon but this is one fake holiday I just can't abide with anymore. I'll happily celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Bastille Day, hell even Canada Day deserves a toast. But not this one. No doubt it's baggage leftover from living in NY during the 90s but to me St. Patrick's Day always will be tainted with bigotry, hatred and drunken Long Island teenagers vomiting on my stoop.

March 10, 2008 In lieu of actual content, here's a nice documentary (but no embed link from YouTube?) about one of my favorite bands from the 80s. The Judy's should have been huge. Instead, the name of their label became kind of prophetic. If you're intrigued, take a look at this badly-compressed, live performance of "Guyana Punch," their tragic yet funny wanna-be-pop song about Jonestown of all things. And while we're at it, try this 1:15 ditty "How's Gary?," which asks Mrs. Gilmore the musical question why her son is acting so strange, standing by the wall and wearing the blindfold with the holes in his chest. There are a few other songs on YouTube but you can find them on your own. Don't be a hippie. |
