We just started using a vanilla jasmine hand soap that's so yummy I sniff my fingers for ages after I wash.

I heard the sad news from Shari last night. Calvert DeForest Larry "Bud" Melman died on Monday. This bit with him handing out hot towels at the Port Authority ranks as one of his best. I still laugh so hard that I cry. Though I wish I could find a clip of his Toast On A Stick or Melman Bus Line commercials.

Reason #3756 Why I Don't Use A PC

Got this message at the office yesterday. The stupid premature time change happened over a week ago, right?

Attention Staff:

Additional patches and updates were installed on the network over the weekend to resolve issues with the incorrect system clock and incorrect appointment times in Outlook on PCs.

If your system still shows the incorrect time, you must restart your computer at least twice. If you do not restart your computer, the changes will not take effect.

Restart twice is my favorite part.

I don't get the appeal of St. Patrick's Day. Probably from the years of living in Manhattan. To me it's either Hatemonger's Day or Drunk Long Island Teenagers Puking In The Gutter Outside My Apartment Day. Shockingly I don't see the point of acknowledging much less celebrating either one.

I'm going to blame the recent dearth of entries on the PowerBook's hard drive giving up the ghost. Getting it fixed has taken longer than anticipated mainly because of a mix up with shipping containers. I won't bore you with the details. Happily, DHL reports that the repaired laptop is winging its way back to my eager hands. I certainly am ready to move on.

Not that any of this is really relevant. I just need some sort of activity to distract me from the monotonous drone of the Golden Gate Bridge's fog horn.

The subject line of a message caught by one of the junk mail filters actually made me laugh out loud just now.

"What Would Jesus Wiki"

The message itself no doubt contained breathless news about Viagra or Cialis. I don't know; I just purged the folder, not bothering to look. But someone somewhere gets a quarter point for entertaining me this morning.

I spoke too soon last week. Friday night, the PowerBook started moving agonizingly slow. Taking minutes to redraw the desktop. Disk Utility revealed that the drive's SMART status showed imminent failure. Fortunately the AppleCare warranty remains in effect for another six weeks so a service box is on the way. Just reinforces my believe in the importance of having extended coverage on portable machines. Also had done a full back up last week and the early warning gave me enough time duplicate to the updated mail and photos. Hopefully the incident won't be more than several days inconvenience.
