I love finding stuff like this gaffe from Honda.

Honda Motor Co. had a recall affecting nearly 1.2 million vehicles because it printed the wrong phone numbers for NHTSA in its manuals; the number it printed led callers to a phone-sex line.

Personally, I'd speak to the nice folks at a sex line any day rather than the bored bureaucrats at NHTSA. But, you know, that's just me.

The fledging new airline Virgin America has launched an interesting website, letvafly. Should be fascinating to see if taking their story to the public will sway the bureaucrats. I'd certainly like the opportunity to plant my butt in one of those off-white seats.

I heard about the Pizza for Pesos controversy on NPR but now there's an easy link from the NY Times. Don't the morons have better things to do than send hate email over an issue of commerce? I'm mean, come on. Have any of the folks who are up in arms been across the border to Canada? Most establishments gladly take U.S. dollars just by pushing a button on the cash register and return your change in CDN. Why aren't these folks also condemning banks and change bureaus for accepting pesos? Makes me ill. If those hate mongers represent the U.S., as I'm sure each they all believe in their tiny brains, I'd much rather be Canadian or an EU'er.

Another reason to hate Sarbanes Oxley. It's got to be one of the most hateful laws ever foisted on U.S. businesses. Thank the stars I'm no longer working for a publicly-traded company.

Tonight Safari started acting all funky. Pages took ages to load and I got the dreaded spinning color wheel all too often. Unfortunately, the browser has acted this way all too often of late. I know there's something funky in my home directory because it doesn't act like that in the virgin test account that I keep just to check such things. But who has the patience to wade through the gazillion files in there, trying to find the culprit? Certainly not me.

Anyway back to tonight, I've had some success with this browser slow down by quitting and relaunching. So I do and am quiet appalled to find that all my RSS subscriptions are reset to zero when Safari comes back up. Now it thinks I've got thousands of unread articles.

Grrrrrrrr.

If you're in NYC, catch my pal Darren at the Annex tonight. It's his New York debut. As a bonus, he's handing out free copies of his new EP to the audience. Wish I was there.

I'm not sure I agree with AutoBlog's description of "stunning" for the new Cadillac CTS. However, the car does look quite nice. If the reality proves as good as the photos, I could even see myself buying one. Wait a minute. Me, the confirmed Euro car guy contemplating a Cadillac? Maybe stunning applies after all.

Everyone wants to know what Steve J. will announce any moment now. iTv, iPhone, touchscreen iPod. All old news at this point. The real surprise is going to be making transporter technology leap from the small screen to reality. The iTransporter will materialize in Apple Stores for Xmas '07. Remember, you heard it here first folks.

One of the other directors at school got a gift basket of flavored coffees recently and handed them out at the last staff meeting because he avoids caffeine. Now I fully subscribe to the notion that flavors are used just to cover up bad beans so I was loath to take one of the mini-bags. My manners got the better of me though. I just can't say no when presented with a gift, even a regift. Worse, after I had it in my office for a couple of days, a kind of morbid curiosity took over. Jack Daniels coffee. Just how awful could it be? Answer: Bad. Really, really bad. Even freshly brewed, it had that on-the-burner-at-the-truck-stop bitterness to it. Just nasty shit. Still, I tried to use it out of guilt. Tossing it would be wasteful, right? Wrong. The second cup just now sent shivers down my spine and the evil half-full black bag went right into the trash. Good riddance.

Makes me remember how much coffee lovers owe to Starbucks. Yes, I know the green-signed stores are hated in many corners. However, the chain has been largely responsible for raising the quality of basic brewed coffee throughout the country. Too many people forget that Folgers, Maxwell House and Farmer's Brothers (shudder) ruled most of the land outside of enlightened enclaves, namely the Bay area, Pacific Northwest and New Orleans, just a decade or so ago.
