May 31, 2006 Back in SF. Trip was great. My parents has a great time by all appearances. The Oregon coast deserves all the praise it gets. And Vancouver dazzled, as usual. I lapsed into mellow mode the past few days. Enjoying unhurried days with Rich and basking in a string of gorgeous days. But the fog returned this morning so I'm back to clutching a hot beverage and huddling in front of the monitor. I suppose I should work my way through the pile of mail that built up. Or wrangle the 200 plus images that iPhoto sucked out of the Nikon. A nap sounds infinitely more appealing though.

May 19, 2006 Greetings from Crescent City. My parents flew in from Tejas and now we're making our way up the coast. Hopefully we'll make it to BC before we need to turn back to make their plane at SFO. We transversed the better part of No Cal today. Found a nice coffee place that roasts its own in Ukiah Did the Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Country. Now we're sleeping next to the ocean though the windows are so thick I can't actually hear the surf unless I put my ear right up on the glass. Oh well. Tomorrow Oregon.

May 10, 2006 I got a nifty all-in-one printer/scanner/copier recently. The HP Photosmart 3210. Very pleased with the quality and speed. Versatile device that I highly recommend. Of course the ink replacements are pricey. $67.70 if you buy all six cartridges individually. But today I learned that HP also packages the six cartridges along with 150 sheets of photo paper in a bundle for about $36. How does that make sense?

May 08, 2006 Does anyone make a three-button bluetooth mouse that's reliable? Both the Kensington and Logitech have extremely mixed reviews. I experienced the erratic behavior of the Logitech on a friend's machine so I'm definitely not wasting my time with it. Apple, just get over yourself and release the Mighty Mouse Bluetooth that we all know is lurking in Cupertino.

May 06, 2006 I'm on the verge of dropping serious dollars on a pair of Aeron chairs for the office. The idea feels extravagant so guilt abounds. Though I do spend a good chunk of waking hours at the desk so perhaps I can rationalize the outlay. Right? Of course no such guilt exists when I think about the Cinema Display that will soon join the PowerBook. Luckily said PowerBook can't drive the 30" model, otherwise Rich might fit me for a straight jacket.

May 05, 2006 I'm amused by the last sentence of the nytimes piece on Wal-Mart's first agency review in 30 years. I firmly believe that clients typically get exactly the kind of advertising they deserve. Sounds to me as if the existing ads pretty much nailed the company.

May 04, 2006 I had something important to say. But then I went down on the couch with the cashmere throw. And of course the cat was magnetically drawn to it. And you all know how cranky she gets when she's disturbed. So maybe I'll remember tomorrow. Maybe.

May 03, 2006 I don't believe in the death penalty. There are so many reasons. Not the least because there are so few times when the guilt of the accused is beyond doubt. And it's more than a bit ironic that most of the strongest advocates of state-sponsored killing seem to be religious. Think about it for a moment. If Christian dogma is correct, killing a criminal is less punishment and more of a release. But I have to admit that the Moussaoui case leaves me more than a bit conflicted. Here's a man that by his own testimony clearly committed heinous crimes. The idea that my tax money will feed and clothe him sickens me. But still, I can't shake my belief that a sentence of death is wrong. Always. Too bad he can't have the option of suicide.

May 02, 2006 Terribly predictable I'm sure but I've already got a little crush on the guy who plays the Mac in the new Apple commercials. Wouldn't mind doing a hard reboot with him, if you know what I mean.

May 01, 2006 What's wrong with me? Meaning, why haven't I posted in two weeks? Nothing really. Been keeping busy with friends. Doing interesting things, even. A David Sedaris reading recently. Redecorating the office. Many dinners with friends. Just a little writing funk, I suppose. I'll break out soon enough. Maybe. |
