Rich Surprises Jake

Happy happy greetings going out to our pal Jake. All his modest protests aside, he's quite the hunk. Hope you got your fill of Mickey Mouse waffles today cutie.

The new Treo display arrived today and I had it swapped within about 30 minutes. Not bad particularly since most of that time was spent figuring out what to do with a couple of rubber bits that weren't mentioned in the instructional video. Seems to be working fine. And best of all the reception issues that caused me to introduce the Treo to the granite counter in the first place appear to have vanished.

Only negative is that I kind of forgot to perform a hot sync before opening it up and disconnecting the battery. Note to self: the Treo is a Palm device. Palm device keep all data in RAM. No power means no data. Now the poor thing thinks it's February or some other kind of weird time warping shit.

I've just about had it with the Treo. It's been acting up for a few weeks. It will show a strong 3 or 4 bar signal then suddenly drop a call or otherwise lose the network momentarily. Though I've noticed that having it plugged in or whacking the case in certain places keeps it from happening. Something inside must be lose or otherwise off. Probably a symptom of dropping to one too many times. The thing will celebrate it's second birthday next month. Ancient for a mobile, right?

Nonetheless, not being able to answer a call proves mighty frustrating at times. Last week, rage took over and I hurdled the Treo at the granite counter in the kitchen

The granite won.

Oh well, I've been laying plans to replace the 600 with the new 700p that operates on Sprint's new higher-speed network. At first I thought I could live with busted LCD for a few weeks. But the blue and yellow blobs are spreading. In four days, they've spread cancer-like from the top left corner to obliterate the left half. I just broke down and ordered a replacement screen.

Who knows, maybe I can reset some connections inside while I've got the thing cracked open. (Btw, if anyone got here looking for instructions, the video plays just fine on a Mac with QT7 plus the free Flip4Mac plugin.)

I'm appalled by the Washington Post report on US plans to launch air strikes—including nuclear—against Iran. Though sadly, I've seen it coming in the rhetoric from Bush, Rice, et al for a couple of years now. However I do agree with one of the basic precepts underlying such plans. The time for regime change has arrived. Though I'm thinking we need it more in Washington than Teheran.

Gosh didn't see anything like Book Camp coming.

Yeah, right.
