Does the world really need Control Your TV? This from the good mindset that foisted the v-chip on us on childless by choice adults.

Speaking of food, is a dinner of bourbon and crackers tacky or just sad?

Let's say it's May 18th. Not beyond the bounds of credibility. And you just opened a bag of mixed baby lettuces that's date sell by May 22. Would you be appalled to find about a third of it has already rotted? Just want to make sure I'm not overreacting.

Lion Mutilates 42 Midgets in Cambodian Ring-Fight. Of course my first thought was what happened to the poor lion, not oh how sad that 28 midgets died. Too bad it's a fake.

I'm not sure why but at least one recently-arrived New Yorker tells me rotary cell phones are all the rage. Personally, I'd much rather have a cell-ready version of the first truly mobile phone?

Day 1 with Tiger. So far, so good. Haven't had any issues. Not even the Spotlight indexing slow down that others are complaining about. In fact, I do believe this is the smoothest OS upgrade I've ever experienced. All my devices and apps still work. Nothing seems untoward. And I'm happily trying every widget I can get my hands on. Does it get any better for a geek?

Does anyone actually use RSS to read my blather? Playing around with the new Safari on Friday at the Tiger release festivities, I discovered that my feeds were seriously broken. Probably have been for 17 months. You'd think someone would have noticed and said something. Actually now that I think about it I have to wonder, does anyone actually use RSS for anything?

Anything other than grist for tech columnist pontificating, slash dot flaming and cocktail party banter, I mean.

The NYTimes headline sent a shiver down my spine.

"Unmentioned Energy Fix: A 55 M.P.H. Speed Limit"

Please, please, please, let Congress learn from its past and refuse to make that horrendous mistake again. If reduced energy consumption is the goal, I'd much rather see European approaches instituted. Economic incentives in the form of significant increases in gasoline taxes, prioritization of low-sulphur diesel, preferential status for smaller, fuel efficient vehicles. Reducing the speed limit is simply a band-aid that allows out prevailing yet technologically-inferior transport infrastructure to lurch through another crisis.
