Yet another sign that I'm increasingly out of it. premium denim strikes me as one of the dopiest categories created for the fashion gullible. "Consumers can identify in one second the difference between Japanese and Chinese denim." Please. Consumes can identify the difference in price tags and the snobs imagine reasons why more expensive is better.

(Yes, this is as type from my new premium laptop as I await the delivery of an absurd 2GB of RAM via overnight air courier.)

Another car entry. The May issue of Automobile features an artist rendition of the BMW 1 and 2 series. Interesting because it offers hope for a back to basics successor to the 2002. Only 31 years late guys, thanks.

Personally, I don't understand why more companies haven't jumped on the simple driving fun bandwagon. Maybe the resounding success of Mini will show some the way. I'd love to see Nissan revive the straight-edged Datsun 510. Or Ford to see it's way to actually build the 021c concept. It made quite in impression on me when I saw it at Detroit several years ago. The fact that the name is a reference to the Pantone-assigned value of its original orange paint is just a hoot.

Meet Drew, the PowerBook G4. This appearance answers what I'm sure are two burning questions for long-time readers. First, what I've been doing for the past several days, namely setting up the new system system rather than writing here. And two, whether I would maintain the tradition of bestowing typical male porn star names upon my computers. Aren't you relieved?

I love magazines. Read dozens every month. So the charter subscription offer for a new general interest guy book dubbed Cargo got my attention. Despite the misgivings I felt upon realizing it's a Conde Nast title, I subscribed. (While I love magazines, I generally despise the frothy fluff put out by the pretentious and deeply closeted sops at Conde Nast.) Fortunately, sanity reigned the day the first issue arrived and I cancelled. But they're still sending issues. Each one just reinforces the righteousness of my decision. What's wrong with this gem from page 78 of the May/June issue?

In 2005, VW will use a Maserati platform for its first rear-wheel-drive car. The sedan will cost more than a Passat but less than a Phaeton.

The Mac geeks got all excited last week about the appearance (maybe) of the (possibly) first OS X trojan horse. A bit of panic floated around. If you knew nothing of it though, count yourself lucky. You can now just read TidBITS typically lucid and imminently understandable coverage. By the way, if you do have a Mac and you don't have a subscription (it's free for god's sake!), what the hell is wrong with you?

Personal blog basics. When you have nothing to say, dig out the cute pet photos.

Slightly old news (but then I'm slightly old these days, too). Volkswagen showed off a the Concept C at the Geneva auto show. Ho hum, just another concept you say? Maybe. Maybe not. The press materials blather on about a new platform using mechanical bits borrowed from both the A5 Golf and the forthcoming B6 Passat. Hmmm, getting interesting since previous reports have the next Jetta growing into the space between the Golf and Passat. Kind of reminds me of the CJ concept which appeared in 1998 as a foreshadow of the 1999 Jetta.
